Join us for a 2-day introductory weekend course on Permaculture!

The Introduction to Permaculture course is designed for anybody interested in gaining the know-how and confidence to plan their own sustainable food garden.

The course is hosted by Emilia Domagala, a permaculture designer, consultant and facilitator, and a sustainability lecturer at Cheeba Cannabis Academy. She was the co-director of Sustainable Abundance Permaculture for 7 years. 

The course takes place at our partner farm The Jazzfarm, in Lanseria, Johannesburg. 

The course runs over 2 consecutive days from 8:30 - 4:30pm with a finger food lunch included and is a blended learning experience mixing in person theory knowledge transfer with hands on practicals at a permaculture garden.

    - What is Permaculture
    - Ethics and principles
    - Approach to permaculture design
    Ability to understand the context of the land in terms of climate and other external factors which inform the elements in the design
    - Garden flow and layout
    How to layout your garden using the information collected from the sector analysis
    - Soil creation and care
    Understanding what soil is and how to feed and take care of it
    - Create a Berkley Hot compost
    How to use the resources around you to create a hot compost
    - Build different beds for edible plants
    What sort of bed to use for different plants and using your body ergonomics to create the right bed size
    - Re-construct a worm farm
    - Plants – from seed to harvest
    Understanding the life cycle of different food producing plants
    - Different propagation methods
    Learning different methods of plant propagations and which ones to use for specific plants
    - Planting seeds, seedlings & trees
    Gain the practical experience of planting out a real food garden
    - Companion planting
    Some plants grow better in little communities, some plants don’t like each other
    - Natural pest management
