Barcelona meet up with the Dagga Couple (video)
The “Dagga Couple”, as they were dubbed by the South African media, have been at the forefront of fighting for the legalisation of cannabis in South Africa for over 10 years. Julian Stobbs and Myrtle Clarke were arrested in 2010 for the position of cannabis and rather than plead guilty, the couple decided instead to sue seven sectors of government that maintained and enforced the policy of cannabis prohibition in the country resulting in what has been described locally as the Trial of the Plant in 2017.
In 2014, they founded the non-profit organisation Fields of Green which engages with policy makers in order to help construct South Africa’s cannabis future in all of its varied facets.
On a trip to Barcelona we spent some time with them to get their insight into the Barcelona cannabis scene and what can be learned from the city and implemented in South Africa.
